Yesterday, the Hawaii chapter of the Amazing Care Network was treated to an excellent presentation by Mickey Malloy, an experienced physical trainer. Not only did Mickey review some pertinent information about body mechanics, but she showed us exercises to help with balance, breathing, and should we fall, how to recover safely. I found particularly valuable, her suggestions on helping someone who has fallen to get up safely without injuring the person who has fallen as well as the person doing the helping.

There were many questions raised by our members and guests. They reflected similar concerns for ourselves and our loved ones as we experience the physical impacts of aging. It was reassuring to know that we can mitigate some of the risks of injury. I learned, for example, that falls can be minimized by making sure our hearing and vision are in good working order. That old chestnut about bones and muscles being connected comes to mind. We’re grateful to Mickey for leading the group to a series of movements that were not difficult to do. . . now, if I can just remember to do them faithfully!
