Gary Powell, President of The Caregiver Foundation

Gary A. Powell is an Island boy.  He was born in plantation town of Waialua, and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. He began his caregiving journey at 13 when he became a caregiver for his Grandfather. Entering the business world at 16, Gary A. Powell Gary was never far from the world of caregiving.  Throughout his varied entrepreneurial experiences (musician, author, landscaper, retail store operator, theater director, CEO, facilities manager, personnel trainer, loss containment specialist, counselor, teacher Trustee, Guardian, Conservator) he managed the care needs and personal affairs of scores of individuals. Today, as Executive Director of The Caregiver Foundation, Gary serves as Conservator and/or Guardian for several dozen Seniors and Disabled Adults working with his staff to provide practical and emotional support for Seniors, Disabled Adults and their Caregivers.

A frequently sought after speaker in Hawaii, Japan and throughout the USA, Gary covers a broad range of topics from “bio-ethical decision making” to “managing Mom’s money!” Gary is the author of “In That Land There Are Giants” and he is currently working on two caregiving-related literary projects, “Grandma Smells Funny” – a book designed to help juveniles and adolescents understand the problems of dementia and an adult oriented book entitled “The Slow Goodbye” – a compilation of reflections on the reality of caregiving.
