MEET OUR SPEAKERS:

Gary P Gardner – Certified Financial Transitionist (Planner) and a Registered Investment Advisor

Gary’s primary focus for many years has been helping clients in transition. Whether it be the Life Event of retirement, sale of a business, the death of a loved one or any other life change, Gary has been a thinking partner with his clients in transition into their new post-Life Event lives. He is a Certified Financial Transitionist.®  CeFT™

Upon graduating from the University of California Santa Barbara, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. Upon returning to the U.S., he entered the financial services industry and helped pioneer the fledgling financial planning movement. Gary is a Certified Financial Planner® and Registered Investment Advisor. He is the past president of the Financial Planning Association of the East Bay, served as a board member of Hospice of the East Bay Foundation from 2005-2014 and an Area Governor of Toastmaster International in 2015. He has participated on national advisory panels for institutional money management firms, provided analysis for television and radio, written articles and been interviewed for industry publications.

Gary and his wife of over 30 years enjoy traveling and being involved in their church. Gary also loves spending time with his eleven grandchildren and playing an occasional round of golf.

Volleyball has been a passion of Gary’s for his entire life. He coached off and on for 35 years. Most of his volleyball action today involves watching grandchildren play or whatever the DVR captures at home.

 

 

Kristen Howe – Estate Planning Attorney

Always smart and entertaining, Kirsten Howe is among the most highly ranked estate planning attorneys in Walnut Creek. The firm’s areas of expertise include Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Medi-Cal Planning, Probate, Retirement Asset Planning and Special Needs Planning.  Kirsten began her law career as a business planning attorney, but soon realized estate planning and elder law were her passions. Kirsten Howe provides easy, legal solutions for every client and prides herself on long-lasting relationships with her clients.

Kirsten Howe, the firm’s managing attorney, was admitted to the California bar in 1987 and has practiced in Walnut Creek since 1997. She earned her J.D. cum laude at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she was a member of the Thurston Society and Managing Editor of The Hastings Law Journal. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1980 from the University of Michigan.

Kirsten is a member of the Trusts and Estates section of the California State Bar Association; the Estate Planning and Probate Section, the Elder Law Section and the Women’s Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association. She is on the Board of Directors of the Estate Planning Council of Diablo Valley and a member of the Robert G. McGrath Chapter of American Inns of Court.

Kirsten Howe has given presentations to many professional associations in the Bay Area on the topics of estate planning, trust administration, SSI benefits, ABLE accounts, Medi-Cal benefits, Special Needs trusts, estate planning with retirement trusts, Proposition 13, How to Prepare Fiduciary Accounting, Trust Protectors and Planning for Incapacity.  Kirsten is also trained by the Trusts and Estates Section of the State Bar of California on Elder Financial Abuse and has given many presentations to seniors and their families on this very important topic.
