Happy Summer to all of you!

I hope that all of you are in good spirits and staying healthy as we enjoy the summer months.  Along with many others, I’ve been sheltering-in-place, and my dreams of summer include visiting in person (finally!) with family and friends.   I so hope that happens soon for you and for me!

Did you know that June is Men’s Health Month?  As someone who has been in the field of healthcare for most of my career I try hard to stay connected with issues affecting health financing and delivery.  As a wife and mother, I also remind the family how important it is to maintain good health habits by monitoring diet, activity and regular doctor visits. Sometimes my advice falls on stubborn ears, as was the case with my late husband Pablo.

Pablo was never good at seeing the doctor, believing that he was on top of his physical health.  Back in 2009, I was deeply concerned about colds and what he called “minor infections” that never got resolved.  In 2011, he was diagnosed with cancer.  Had he been more religious in seeing to his health, perhaps he may have averted losing one kidney to cancer.  But we’ll never know.  Men’s life span is 5 years less than women in the U.S.  There are a variety reasons why men die sooner than women.  You can check out an article from the Mayo Clinic on our blog HERE.

Please enjoy the beginning of summer and a Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and Grandfathers everywhere!

All my best,

Cora
