Spring is in the air and I am certainly looking forward to the change in weather! Many of you know that spring is a busy travel season for me (notwithstanding the corona virus).  However, I made sure that I was in Oakland for the Amazing Care Network Lunch and Learn on February 20th.  Our guest speaker was Pastor Kevin Yriarte who is the founder of the Journey of Faith Church located in Covina, California,  and Chaplain for the La Verne Police Department.  Years ago, Kevin and I worked together at Health Net where he managed a large claims department.

Pastor Kevin spoke about the stages of grief.  His knowledge, experience and training in the fields of grief, bereavement, hospice care and family counseling came through in a compelling and compassionate manner.  His discussion of the stages of grief beginning with shock, guilt, anger and finally, acceptance spoke volumes to all of us in the room.  For those of us who have not experience a loss of a loved one, we learned that these stages translate to other traumatic events that occur in our lives (loss of employment, divorce are examples).  Learn more about the stages of grief in our blog here.

The spread of the COVID-19 virus is likely changing things in your area.   I have reflected yet again on how precious life is and how family and friends can help us through challenging times, like the one we are experiencing with this virus.  I’m taking the advice of friends – staying calm, continuing on, and washing my hands often!

All My Best,

Cora Tellez, CEO and Founder
