We’re almost one month into 2018! How are your New Year’s Resolutions going?

Are you sticking to your exercise every day plan? Or maybe you were more realistic and decided on exercise three days a week?

Wether you are a workout superstar or just getting started, we’re not going to share all the health benefits of exercise (strength, weight loss, increased energy, better sleep…). We instead want to share with you the different types of exercise so you can be sure to choose the right one and have a successful year or at least a few successful months of checking resolutions off your list!

Here are the four main types of exercise:

1) Aerobic Exercise: any form of sustained exercises like jogging, hiking, swimming or cycling that, that stimulates and strengthens the heart and lungs, thereby improving the body’s utilization of oxygen.

  • speeds up your heart rate and breathing

  • increases endurance

  • relaxes blood vessel walls

  • lowers blood pressure

  • lowers blood sugar

  • burns body fat

  • weight loss

  • raises good HDL and lowers bad LDL cholesterol

2) Strength Training – physical exercise like weight lifting or resistance band training that specializes in inducing muscular contraction which builds overall strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles.

  • builds and maintains muscle mass

  • stimulates bone growth

  • lowers blood sugar

  • assists with weight control

  • improves balance and posture

3) Stretching/Flexibility – a form of physical exercise like yoga or simple stretching routines in which a specific muscle or tendon (or muscle group) is deliberately flexed or stretched in order to improve the muscle’s felt elasticity and achieve comfortable muscle tone.

  • increased flexibility

  • muscle control

  • helps with range of motion

  • reduce muscle and joint cramps and pains

  • reduces risk of injury

4) Balance – an even distribution of weight from exercises such as tai chi or yoga enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady, a situation in which different elements.

  • prevents falls

  • strengthens muscles

  • provides feeling of being more steady

  • reduce the effects of loss of balance which in turn affects vision, inner ear, and leg muscles and joints
